Our phones are already an essential part of post-post-post-modern life. They are a way of navigating a world built to our scale—a world where earthquakes or natural disasters shake us, almost always without warning. We are all interconnected, segmented, divided, and dehumanized. Little by little, we surrender to desire.

Stencil and brush touch-ups, acrylic on canvas. 102x152cm. Year 2019.

My brother and I coined the term "post-post-post" seven years ago for our first solo exhibition. We wanted to address a phenomenon we believed was unfolding—one that, up to that point, no one else had named. This painting by Prizmu illustrates a reference to a reference to a reference—like a generational conversation suggesting that, while we may indeed be in the future, we have yet to break through the membrane of the past.

I conceived this piece immediately after the events of 2020. I drew inspiration from paintings by René Magritte, in which objects are linked—without apparent logic—to French words. I applied the same principle but within the context of that time period, even emulating Magritte’s handwriting. This is a poster version; it features two fewer objects than the canvas version but includes the "FCKWRS" logo in the "Tinder" typeface. This work is available here: Buy now
